Too many Reliance Jio users are experiencing dropped calls when they are connecting to customers of the Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone, the new operator is saying.
Jio is claiming that 520 million call failures between users of the other three operators and its customers in 10 days. Jio is saying that the industry regulator sets a failure rate of one in 200 calls, but that 75 out of 100 have been failing.
Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone have 61% of the Indian mobile market between them, according to the Telecoms Regulatory Agency of India (TRAI). India has 1.03 billion connections, says TRAI.
Reliance Jio, owned by Reliance Industries, started up last week with a low introductory offer for customers. TRAI has set the mobile termination rate at only the equivalent in rupees of about 0.2 US cents per minute.
According to the Economic Times of India, TRAI wants the four operators to sort out differences between themselves, but warned it would intervene if call quality continues to suffer.
Jio asked for 12,500 points of interconnection to Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone but the three dominant operators provided only 1,400. Jio is expected to ask for up to 7,000 extra connection points immediately, says the Economic Times.
