Sparkle to expand Seabone global backbone to Iran

Telecom Italia’s Sparkle is working with the Telecommunication Infrastructure Company (TIC) of Iran to expand its Seabone global backbone to Iran, the company has announced.

TIC and Sparkle, the international services arm of Telecom Italia, signed the partnership agreement on Tuesday September 9 at a conference in Tehran. The deal includes the provision of a point of presence (PoP) in the Iranian capital.

“We are very pleased to be TIC's first international Tier-1 IP partner,” said Alessandro Talotta, Sparkle’s chairman and CEO. “This agreement combines TIC’s expertise in domestic and regional markets with Sparkle’s proven know-how on global IP transit service.”

The new PoP will be in operation by end of this year, the companies said. TIC will be able to support the increasing demand for IP services from the local market but also from neighbouring countries.

Azari Jahromi, TIC’s chairman and CEO, said: “This is an important step in enhancing TIC’s role as a regional player, and we are delighted to be a party to this promising venture.”

TIC will be able to accelerate the development of digital and value added services in Iran and will provide access to the global internet to national and international players through Sparkle’s Seabone global tier-1 IP transit backbone.

Talotta added: “Through this partnership with TIC we are able to provide high grades of reliability and guaranteed service level agreements to service providers of the region and improve the user experience of Iranian customers.”
