Mobily teams with Ericsson to launch 4x4 MIMO in Saudi Arabia

Mobily has partnered with Ericsson to introduce 4x4 MIMO technology to its 4G network in the Western region of Saudi Arabia.

The MIMO technology, or multiple input and multiple output, will give Mobily subscribers in the region higher data speeds as well as increased network capacity.

Mobily will deploy Ericsson’s L16 network software in order to handle increasing data traffic, which is expected to double year-on-year, the company said.

Ericsson’s 4x4 MIMO technology can boost speeds up to 220Mbps on a 20MHz LTE TDD network by increasing spectral efficiency of the connection.

“We want to ensure that our end-user will reap significant benefits from the deployment of 4x4 MIMO technology,” said Maziad Al-Harbi, chief technology officer at Mobily.

Ali Eid, head of Ericsson Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Palestine, said: “Ericsson’s 4x4 MIMO technology will give Mobily the ability to enhance its customers’ experience — and ensure higher speeds with expanded and improved app coverage.”
