Cologix completes expansion of Vancouver data centre

Data centre and colocation company Cologix has completed a major expansion to its VAN2 data centre in Vancouver, offering up to 750kW of new high density capacity.

Cologix announced completion of the expansion on August 24 and said local businesses in the Canadian city had already signed up to occupy almost a quarter of the expanded capacity space.

The expansion includes the same chimney-based hot air containment system Cologix uses in the centre, which allows for power densities surpassing 10kW per cabinet. It also offers neutral access to more than 40 network service and cloud service providers to future proof IT deployments.

"Vancouver has been one of Cologix's fastest growing markets," notes Grant van Rooyen, chief executive officer of Cologix. "We are proud of the role we play to help facilitate connections within the technology ecosystem in Vancouver and look forward to continued investment in the market."

More than 1,600 customers deploy equipment in Cologix’s data centres, which also include VAN1 in Vancouver.

"Technology is a primary driver of Vancouver's economic growth, with the industry relying on the availability of high quality data centres and interconnection services," said Vancouver Economic Commission manager of tech sector development Sean Elbe. "Cologix's expansion will deliver infrastructure resiliency and enhanced access to service providers within Vancouver, increasing the city's competitive advantages for local tech businesses."
