Ascom sells network test and monitoring unit to InfoVista

Swiss vendor Ascom is selling its telecoms network testing and monitoring business, called TEMS, to InfoVista for an undisclosed sum.

The new transaction will see InfoVista nearly double in size, with approximately $200 million in annual revenue. It will improve the group’s global presence, particularly in the US and in Asia, said InfoVista.

InfoVista is a French-registered company that bought an application performance monitoring company, Ipanema, in 2015. Private equity group Thoma Bravo sold InfoVista to another private equity investor, Apax Partners, in May 2016.

Philippe Ozanian, CEO of InfoVista, said: “By bringing the TEMS portfolio into InfoVista, we are creating the most scalable, powerful and flexible platform for network performance orchestration to [communications service providers], mobile operators and enterprises.”

Ascom bought TEMS from Ericsson in 2009 for a total of Sfr 190 million (today equivalent to $198 million), secured from a consortium of eight Swiss banks led by UBS and Credit Suisse.

This is the second major disposal by Ascom in a few months. In December 2015 a German group, Axino Solutions, acquired Ascom’s systems and solutions business from the company.

TEMS is a network testing, monitoring and optimisation platform used by mobile network operators, major infrastructure suppliers and network engineering services providers. InfoVista’s acquisition of TEMS will strengthen its ability to offer innovative solutions for mobile network performance analytics, indoor network design and optimization, and active service testing, said the company.

“TEMS is a well-established and well-respected business that already helps most of the world’s largest mobile network operators to manage and optimise the capacity and quality of their wireless networks,” said Ozanian.
