Spirit Telecom appoint COO and CMO

Spirit Telecom has announced the appointment of Matthew Hobbs as chief operating officer and Catherine Bolch as its first chief marketing officer.

Hobbs, who has over 20 years’ experience in the IT and telecommunications sectors, will replace Russell Mitchell as COO. Hobbs joins from Alltel Australia, where he was most recently national sales and operations manager. He sold his wholesale data and voice services business, Wholesale Communications Group, where he was CEO, to M2 in May 2007. After the deal he became national wholesale sale manager and less than two years later became CIO.

Bolch joins Spirit Telecom after spending 11 years at Origin Energy, where she worked across retail marketing, communication and brand strategy. She also held roles at Primus Telecom and ANZ.

“Catherine and Matthew bring a wealth of experience to Spirit not only in their respective roles, but also in understanding the growth requirements commensurate with Spirit’s ambitions,” said Geoff Neate, managing director of Spirit.

“Russell moves into creating a new revenue-generating segment, which will assist in Spirit’s growth.”

Mitchell, who has transitioned the provider of ultra-fast internet access and telephony services from a private company to a publicly listed operation, takes on the newly developed role of general manager of market development.
