Telenor appoints Swisscom mobile head as CEO

Telenor has announced that Alexandra Reich has been appointed CEO of its Hungarian outfit and executive vice president of the Telenor Group, effective November 1, 2016.

Reich will take over from Christopher Laska, who started the role in January 2011 but will become senior vice president of board governance and partner relations for Asia within the Telenor Group.

“I am very pleased to welcome Alexandra Reich as CEO of Telenor Hungary and part of my management team,” said Sigve Brekke, president and CEO of Telenor Group.

“Her understanding of customers’ digital ambitions, her in-depth knowledge of the telecoms industry and her entrepreneurial drive makes me confident that she is a great addition to our team and will continue to take our Hungarian business forward."

Reich joins from Swisscom, which she joined in 2009 and where she has was most recently EVP and head of mobile business in its enterprise division since 2014. She entered the telecommunications industry in 2001 and held senior executive roles at VIAG Interkom, T-Online Austria, 3G Hutchison Austria and Zurich-based Sunrise.

“After many years in telco, working with challengers in Germany, Austria and seven years with the Swiss incumbent, I felt it was time to take this exciting opportunity,” said Reich.

“Within the last years I have learned a lot about customer experience design and the power of customer centricity, especially in the digital world. I am very much looking forward to working with the team in Hungary and also being part of the Telenor Group.”

According to Telenor Hungary’s Q2 2016 figures, it is the country’s second largest mobile operator with around a 30% market share, 3.2 million mobile subscriptions and over 1,000 employees.

The news comes after Lars Erik Telmman became CEO of its Myanmar unit at the beginning of August and it reshuffled its CEOs for its Bulgaria and Pakistan operations in June.
