Vodafone and Liberty Global offer concessions to secure EU merger

Vodafone and Liberty Global have offered concessions to the European Commission in a move to gain approval for their planned merger in the Netherlands.

The operators made their offer on July 12, according to the European Commission.

The body has extended its deadline to issue a ruling on the case to August 3, 2016. It is expected to seek feedback from competitors and other parties before a final decision is made. The concessions were not revealed.

The proposed deal involves a 50:50 joint venture in the country through Liberty Global’s fixed services under the Ziggo brand and Vodafone’s mobile offering.

Liberty Global’s acquisition of Belgium’s Base in February was approved after it agreed to specific conditions tailored around competition.
