Megaport’s Cologix nodes boost hybrid-cloud

In a boost to the concept of hybrid-cloud Cologix said that Megaport had deployed its software-defined networking (SDN) system into two Cologix data centres.

Cologix, a network-neutral interconnection, and data centre company, announced today that Megaport had deployed its software-defined networking (SDN) system into Cologix data centres in Dallas and Toronto.

It is believed that this collaboration will help it to spread beyond its initial core deployments in North America. As content and cloud applications push closer to end users at the edge of the network, these growing markets are becoming important points for networks like Megaport.

Cologix customers, in turn, benefit from access to Megaport’s connection model, especially to its public cloud providers, a concept known as hybrid-cloud.  As a Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute connectivity partner, Amazon AWS Direct Connect partner and Google Cloud Platform Carrier Interconnect partner, Megaport extends Cologix customers' reach to public clouds.

Megaport Chief Executive Officer Denver Maddux said: “Over the past five years, enterprises in emerging markets have found new options to outsource data center operations in their home markets and are now demanding dedicated, but flexible connectivity to the leading public cloud providers," said Grant van Rooyen, chief executive officer, Cologix.  "We are pleased to introduce Megaport's solution to our customers in these markets as an option within Cologix's Cloud Connect Platform."

Starting immediately, Cologix customers across four data centres in those markets have access to an ecosystem of network services and interconnection to a broad set of cloud providers available through Megaport's platform.
