Three UK to host RWG Mobile as first MVNO in Wales

RWG Mobile is to become the first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in Wales.

The service – set to be launched July 18, 2016 – will be hosted on Three’s network and powered by its mobile virtual network aggregator (MNVA), x-Mobility.

The MVNO will first operate virtually through an app and then move towards a SIM-based offering. Key features of the offering include up to five separate mobile numbers on one smartphone such as Wifi calling, access to 3G and 4G networks, Welsh or English language services and lost cost international calling rates.

Its founder and CEO Andrew Davies said the MVNO will compete with established players in the space.

“RWG Mobile will compete with the big networks and other MVNOs, matching them in areas like connection speeds, international dialing and call rates but providing a user experience, customer service support and additional benefits that have a distinct Welsh identity.”

“No other country or region of the UK has its own mobile network, so we set out to create a communications provider and a service that reflects and understands the needs of the Welsh population,” said Davies.

The company said that 16% of mobile phone users in Wales claim to be fairly or very dissatisfied with their mobile network as a result of internet speeds, rewards and customer service.
