Dialog Axiata names Supun Weerasinghe in CEO succession plan

Dialog Axiata has announced that Supun Weerasinghe is to succeed Hans Wijayasuriya as group chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2017.

Weerasinghe, who joined the Dialog group in 1999 and since 2014 has been CEO of Robi Axiata in Bangladesh, held several management positions prior to being appointed to the position of Dialog’s group COO in 2010. In 2013, he was seconded to the Axiata corporate centre in Kuala Lumpur, to take up an assignment as the Chief Strategy Officer of the Axiata group.

“The announcement of succession follows Dr Hans Wijayasuriya, the group chief executive of Dialog, taking on additional regional responsibilities in the capacity of the regional CEO for South Asia of the Axiata group, earlier this year,” a statement released to the Colombo Stock Exchange said.

“The company accordingly informed the CSE that its board of directors in consultation with the board nomination and remuneration committee had resolved to name Mr Supun Weerasinghe as the successor to Dr Hans Wijayasuriya with effect from 1st January 2017.”

Wijayasuriya will continue to serve on the board of directors of the Dialog Axiata group in line with his role as the regional CEO for South Asia, encompassing Axiata group’s operations and investment interests in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Weerasinghe will return to Dialog’s leadership team in Q4 2016 in the capacity of the group’s deputy chief executive and CEO designate.
