Chinese telcos sign tower leasing deal

China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have signed separate agreements aimed at reducing their tower leasing rates.

The three operators have signed five-year lease deals for access to the towers that are presently held by China Tower, the joint venture they formed in 2014.

The venture was launched to manage the construction, maintenance and operations of service providers’ network towers and auxiliary infrastructure across the country.

According to analyst firm Nomura, the savings for China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom this year will amount to 2.4 billion yuan, 1.9 billion yuan and 1.8 billion yuan, respectively.

In terms of Ebitda, China Mobile will post a 1% year-on-year increase while China Unicom and China Telecom will record a 2% increase.
