Telenor CFO promoted to CEO of Myanmar unit

Telenor has announced that Lars Erik Tellmann, CFO of its Myanmar unit, will succeed Petter Furberg as CEO, effective 1 August, 2016.

Tellmann, who joined Telenor in 2001, will also join Telenor’s group executive management in the shake-up which will sees Furberg take up a position in Telenor Digital Businesses in Asia supporting business development within consumer services, online classifieds and market places.

“Lars Erik has been part of the founding management team in Myanmar, and has played a central role in the operations and development of the company over the past three years,” said Sigve Brekke, president and CEO of the Telenor Group. “I am confident that in him Telenor has an experienced leader to drive the next phase of our growth, and to further develop our strong company culture and way of work.”

Before his CFO appointment in July 2013, Furberg was also appointed CEO as Telenor established its operations in Myanmar, Tellmann was senior VP and head of strategic development in Telenor Asia.

“Heading Telenor in Myanmar is an honour and privilege for me. Our industry has had a major impact on Myanmar over the last two years, and will continue to play a significant role in supporting the growth of the country in coming years. Telenor has a solid market and network presence in Myanmar and with a proven strategy and business model we are well set-up for future growth. My job will be to deliver on this strategy alongside a talented leadership team, and a highly passionate group of colleagues,” added Tellmann.
