MTN appoints Rob Shuter as CEO

MTN has appointed Vodafone executive Rob Shuter as its new CEO and group president.

South African-born Shuter is presently CEO at Vodafone Netherlands and is said to take up the position at MTN South Africa before July 1, 2017.

He will replace Sifiso Dabengwa who resigned last November following a $5.2 billion fine in Nigeria.

“MTN is confident that Rob will bring experience and new insights to the CEO role having had many years in the telecoms sector both in Africa and Europe,” said MTN.

Shuter has served as CEO at Vodafone Netherlands since April 2012 and his role has since expanded to include other European countries. He was also previously at Vodacom Group, Standard Bank and Nedbank.

MTN has also appointed new non-executive directors Paul Hanratty, Stan Miller and Nkululeko (Nkunku) Sowazi, effective August 2016.
