Australian OTT company to stream TV and movies in Asia-Pac

Australian company OTT Premium is to offer streaming content to telecoms companies and broadcasters across 100 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Sydney-based OTT Premium, owned by listed company IOT Group, has signed a contract with Danish technology provider Xstream to use its streaming media platform across the region.

“This partnership will expand the reach of an Australian tech company across the entire region,” said Ian Duffell, executive director of IOT Group. “There is a gap in the market for customers looking for unique content delivered as and when they want it. There’s numerous streaming and [video-on-demand] services offering mass content, few of which offer tailored viewing or multilingual channels to address unique tastes.”

OTT Premium already provides Arabic, Greek and Russian streaming TV services to Australian internet customers via a related company, Intervision. IOT Group has not announced contracts for its new services with individual retail or wholesale providers, but Xstream lists Telenor and Spark – formerly Telecom New Zealand – among its clients.

Simon Høgsbro, CEO of Xstream, commented: “The entire Asia Pacific region is experiencing tremendous growth in online video viewership. Entering this new era with OTT Premium will allow us to meet the increasing demand for our technology in this region.”

OTT Premium has appointed Bob Morrison, formerly Xstream’s managing director for Asia-Pacific, as its head.
