New owner appoints Orascom CFO to head Telkom Kenya

Helios Investment Partners has named former Orascom CFO Aldo Mareuse as CEO of Telkom Kenya, following Helios’s purchase of a controlling stake from Orange.

Mareuse has been an industry advisor to Helios since April 2015, but earlier spent nine years as group CFO of Orascom Telecom, the African operator which is now controlled by VimpelCom.

Helios is an African-controlled private investment company

According to Kenya’s Business Daily, former Safaricom CTO John Barorot will be chief technology and information officer, replacing Jean-Marie Garcia, who is now CTIO of Orange-controlled Korek Telecom in Iraq.

Kenyan businessman Eddy Njoroge remains chairman of Telkom Kenya, which was branded as Orange Kenya during Orange’s control of the operation.

According to Business Daily, Helios now controls 60% of the company after handing 10% to the Kenyan government as part of the deal, increasing the state-owned stake from 30% to 40%.
