Vodafone to rollout 4G in Zambia after Afrimax deal

Vodafone is to further extend its sub-Saharan Africa footprint by launching 4G services in Zambia after signing a partner agreement with Afrimax Group.

The companies first joined forces in November 2014 when launching voice and data products in Uganda. Vodafone Zambia will offer high-speed mobile data and internet services in Zambia and it has been reported that former Zain Nigeria COO Lars Stork has been appointed as its CEO.

The deal includes the opening of Vodafone-branded stores and providing services to businesses in the country and Vodafone Zambia will compete with Airtel, MTN and Zamtel.

“We are delighted that Zambia will be joining the Vodafone Partner Market community as the next stage in our agreement with Afrimax for sub-Saharan Africa,” said Stefano Gastaut, chief executive of Vodafone partner markets.

“We look forward to bringing the best high-speed 4G data services to consumers and businesses in Zambia.”

Afrimax Group CEO Peter Langkilde added: “Launching Vodafone Zambia is an exciting development for Afrimax and another big step towards our ambition of building the leading LTE focused operator in sub-Saharan Africa.”
