Finland to deploy IoT network with Sigfox and Connected Finland

Finland is to deploy a national internet of things (IoT) network in collaboration with Sigfox and Connected Finland by 2017.

The country plans to roll out of the low-power area network (LPWAN) and provide coverage for 85% of the population within the next 12 months. When complete, Finland will become the 19th country to use Sigfox’s dedicated IoT network.

“Finland is one of the world’s most competitive economies, with a strong focus on innovation and adopting new technologies in such fields as electronics and telecommunications,” said Rodolphe Baronnet-Frugès, Sigfox’s executive vice-president of networks and operators.

“This positions the country to become a European leader in terms of quick adoption of the IoT and invention of exciting new applications for industry, business and personal use. We have seen this entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated strongly by our partner, Connected Finland.”

Connected Finland was launched by telco veterans Marko Vanninen, Markku Patronen and Tom Lindblad who together have expertise in hardware sales and development companies, software and hosting services, consulting and entrepreneurship. The company is backed by a group of private angel investors and industrial investors.
