Ooredoo Qatar launches 1Gbps fibre broadband

Ooredoo Qatar has launched its fibre to the home (FTTH) service, claiming to be the first operator in the country to offer gigabit broadband connectivity.

The new fibre connection is said to enable customers to download a 30-minute, 4K quality movie in three minutes and a two-hour HD move in two minutes, according to the company.

Customers upgrading their current fibre plan to the 1Gbps plan will get two months at no extra charge before paying the standard price of $521 (QAR1,900).

“Ooredoo continues to set new records with our big, fast network. Our ongoing investment in the company’s state-of-the-art fibre network means that our customers can enjoy incredible 1Gbps fibre speeds for the first time,” explained al-Sayed during yesterday’s launching of the service at the St Regis Doha,” said Waleed al-Sayed, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar.

In addition to the launch of its 1Gbps service, Ooredoo also announced its Platinum HomeZone service which is designed to provide comprehensive Wifi coverage for large villas and mansions.

“By providing additional internet points for Ooredoo customers with large houses or estates, Ooredoo ensures that Wifi connectivity is strong and consistent throughout the entire home, as well as across outdoor spaces. Customers can even enjoy Wifi coverage in their gardens and swimming pools by deploying the service,” al-Sayed added.
