SSE Telecoms adds 30 BT exchanges to phase 2 of its UK fibre network

SSE Telecoms has announced a significant increase in its UK points of presence (PoPs).

SSE Enterprise Telecoms, a UK provider of network infrastructure and data centre services, announced that its network services have been expanded by a further 30 BT exchanges. This new expansion adds to SSE’s present 13,700km, 232 PoP UK-wide fibre network.

This latest expansion provides businesses located in an additional 50,000 business postcodes access to the SSE network. The company intends to add a further four BT exchanges in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Wokingham and Farnborough by the end of the summer this year.

The work forms part of phase two of the operator’s on-going Project Edge network expansion, which seeks to ensure that more locations and businesses across the United Kingdom can gain access to their up to 10Gbps fibre optic and Ethernet network.

Colin Sempill, managing director of SSE Enterprise Telecoms, said: “In 2015, we experienced a 250% increase in orders of our Ethernet services, demonstrating the success of our ongoing network expansion.

With 30 new exchanges now live as part of Edge 2, and more to come within the next few months, organisations can now benefit from even greater access to our high-quality Ethernet services, regardless of where they are in the country.”
