Sonera selects Teleste Luminato to renovate backbone

Teleste has announced the deployment of its Luminato headend platform to Sonera’s cable TV network in Finland to help upgrade its backbone and boost its delivery of high-value services from versatile sources to consumers.

As part of the international Telia Company, Sonera operates a nationwide backbone network, and provides its customers with both TV services and access network services. Teleste’s deployment, across almost 100 sites, aims at a gradual Edge QAM update in Sonera’s entire backbone.

“During our long-term cooperation with Teleste in different types of projects, Teleste has always implemented its high capabilities as a solution provider that meets our extensive requirements. Therefore, we are pleased continue our cooperation in this nationwide Edge QAM renovation project,” said Sonera department manager Sakari Kangasvieri.

The Teleste Luminato headend platform is designed for flexible and future-proof Edge QAM installations. Its Edge-QAM solution provides an advanced DVB-C platform for the multiplexing of versatile video sources for delivery in cable TV networks.

Julius Tikkanen, vice president of video service platforms for Teleste, added: “Sonera’s networks are known for their coverage and service availability, and that is what their consumers are expect also in the future. We are confident that Luminato will provide them the best-of-breed solution which fulfils their, and their customers’, high service expectations.”

The deployment is a bespoke design to integrate the devices into Sonera’s nationwide management system.
