Caucasus taps TE SubCom for 100G upgrade on submarine cable

Georgian ISP Caucasus Online has signed a contract with TE SubCom to perform a network upgrade to the Caucasus subsea cable.

Utilising TE SubCom’s 100Gbps coherent transmission technology, the 1,200km Caucasus cable system – expected to be completed by this month – is expected to support over 9Tbps, more than seven times the initial design capacity.

The cable system provides high bandwidth connectivity between Poti, Georgia and Balchik, Bulgaria as well as Georgian markets by providing direct access to Western Europe. The system was designed, manufactured and installed by TE SubCom and has been in service since 2008.

“As the project supplier for both the full system construction and previous upgrades, we greatly value Caucasus Online’s confidence in TE SubCom,” said Aaron Stucki, president of TE SubCom. “We look forward to continuing our support of this essential cable route by providing state-of-the-art technology that enables Caucasus Online to bring high-volume capacity to its customers.”
