Staples’s promotion was confirmed at the end of April and he replaces Andrew Dodsworth, who has moved roles within the group. Staples was most recently general manager of BT Wholesale’s business development where he was responsible for all services provided on the BT global IP exchange and associated international-switching platforms.

Last week, Staples laid out his vision moving forwards for BT’s business and his plans in his new role: “I will now head up a new unit, centered and managed out of London, responsible for BT’s end-to-end wholesale voice and roaming portfolio.

“My new team brings together the global wholesale voice business that sat within GTM historically, our UK IDD business from BT Wholesale in the UK, and the roaming functions from EE. I will look after all sales, commercial, product, governance and operations that support voice and roaming globally to provide you with a ‘one-stop-stop’ for your voice and roaming services with BT. My unit roles up into Chet Patel, president for portfolio, propositions & marketing.”

Matthew Chandler has joined from Colt to head up all global voice sales, replacing Kai Thiel, and Camille Houery has joined Staples’s team from EE to “continue in her role leading all commercial relations for EE’s roaming business”. In addition, Dhiraj Wazir is to head up interconnect and enablers for its roaming business, a role he conducted for EE previously.

Anthony James has been added to Staples’s leadership team and joins from BT Wholesale to head up commercial operations for voice.

All non-voice and non-roaming business is to be managed by BT’s regional teams moving forwards and Staples added that the company is presently reviewing its structure in Europe and imminent announcements are expected.

Staples previously headed up the strategy team at BT Wholesale, advising the CEO and executive board on strategic and operational issues. He has also had stints at GE Capital and Telstra.
