Ooredoo and Nokia sign expansion agreement

Ooredoo Qatar has signed a three-year agreement with Nokia in which the vendor will upgrade and expand its mobile broadband network across the country.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy its 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE-A radio and core network technologies and services expertise to enable Ooredoo Qatar to expand its Supernet service in Qatar. The telco is already using Nokia’s LTE-A carrier aggregation technology to offer speeds of up to 375Mbps in Doha. Both companies recently demonstrated peak data rates close to 600Mbps.

"By deploying these cutting-edge technologies from Nokia, we will continue to actively boost network performance from 2G through to LTE-A, and deliver a host of social, financial and business benefits for Qatar," said Waleed Al-Sayed, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar.

Bernard Najm, vice president and head of the Middle East Market unit of Nokia, said the deal is a key development of its partnership with Ooredoo Qatar. "This is another important development in our relationship with Ooredoo Qatar, and we continue the successful deployment of LTE technology across the country. Our mobile broadband technology allows service providers to keep pace with fast-growing customer data demands now and into the future," said Najm.
