Bouygues Telecom rolls out first 700MHz site in Paris

Bouygues Telecom has deployed the first 700MHz site in Paris ahead of the Île-de-France frequency band release by communications regulator CSA.

The operator had already obtained ANFR permissions from the National Frequency Agency to deploy 4G antennas and the site has been commercially opened in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

“Bouygues Telecom is continuing its commitment to support the development of Internet usage in mobility and maintains its leadership on 4G,” a company statement read. The operator added it “will continue to expand at the rate of release of the frequencies provided by the CSA”.

The news will come as a blow to Free Mobile, which had indicated in March that it was planning to open a 700MHz site in Ile-de-France during this summer.

Another MHz band was acquired in November, which the operator states will boost its MHz per customer market ratio. The company added that today covers 75% of the French population and estimates that 82% of the population will have its 4G coverage by the end of 2016.

The news comes after merger talks between Orange and Bouygues Telecom collapsed.
