Paggi, who was responsible for Telecom Italia’s Open Access networking unit, left the company in March and was replaced by Carlo Filangieri, former head of Telecom Italia’s Fiber to the Home (FTTH) project. The operator had earlier that year announced a reorganisation of Open Access with a view to changing the equivalence model for the supply of wholesale services for access to its fixed network.
Enel Open Fiber (EOF) is planning to help the government build a national high-speed broadband network. As previously reported in Capacity, the (EOF) is a plan which foresees a fibre-to-the-home network using its own pipes, and ultrafast-broadband which will be released to 224 Italian cities at an estimated cost of €2.5 billion ($2.8bn). The network will be for business and home use.
