KT and China Mobile partner for 5G and IoT

South Korea’s KT and China Mobile have agreed to step up their partnership for next-generation 5G and internet of things (IoT) services.

Both operators will pursue a strategic partnership to build a joint cluster to develop and test the 5G networks as well as set up 5G standards.

“Global cooperation is especially important to have future telecom technologies in place,” said KT chief executive Hwang Chang-gyu.

KT is expected to launch trial 5G services for the first time at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang while China Mobile will provide 5G services at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

In addition to seeking new business opportunities in the IoT market, the operators will also continue their partnership in IoT with the launch of crossover IoT products.
