Reliance Jio appoint CDO ahead of 4G launch

Reliance Jio has appointed Vishal Sampat as its chief digital officer, ahead of the operator’s anticipated commercial launch of 4G services across India.

Sampat will spearhead digital marketing initiatives for Reliance Jio and help to strengthen its digital presence in the country.

Prior to joining, Sampat was CEO of SMG Convonix, a firm he also co-founded in October 2002. Commenting on the news, Hanley King, chairman of SMG India, said: “Vishal has been a superb partner to work with over the past two years and I wish him all the very best with Reliance. I know he will bring the same level of passion, energy and commitment to his future endeavours as he has to Convonix.”

Reliance Jio had previously stated that 4G offerings would be available commercially in March 2016, but industry experts now predict a soft launch is on the cusp of being launched.

A Bank of America-Merrill Lynch report has said a soft launch is possible this month, with a full 4G rollout expected before the end of the year.
