Turkcell set to launch 4.5G service

Turkcell is set to provide so-called 4.5G services in 81 cities across Turkey, said its CEO Kaan Terzioglu.

The announcement comes ahead of the operator's April 1 launch of the service in Turkey.

“We have invested heavily in the spectrum auction held on August 26 in order to bring the fastest mobile internet to our customers all over Turkey,” said Terzioglu, CEO of Turkcell.

“With the 1,220,000 hours of work that our network teams have clocked in through hard conditions, today we are able to announce that Turkcell network is ready for 4.5G in 81 cities 10 days ahead of schedule.”

The operator will launch its 4.5 service with speeds of up to 375Mbps aggregating three carriers. It has also announced plans to support speeds of over 100Mbps towards the end of this year on its network.

According to Terzioglu, 4.5G test speeds on Turkcell’s network in five cities reached download speeds of up to 390.24Mbps and upload speeds of up to 49.76Mbps in the cities of Samsun and Adana.
