Verizon Digital Media Services to acquire video capture provider

Verizon Digital Media Services has agreed to acquire Volicon, a provider of video capture and monitoring tools for broadcasters, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition will provide Verizon with further expertise in video monitoring and analysis, content creation and repurposing, compliance monitoring, ad verification and competitive analysis.

"Volicon’s role as a trusted provider to more than 1,200 broadcast and video operators around the world, combined with deep expertise in video monitoring and analysis, will improve visibility, transparency, and quality of our clients' content and ads over our global delivery footprint," said Bob Toohey, president of Verizon Digital Media Services.

In addition, Volicon’s technology – combined with Verizon Digital Media Services’ Video Lifecycle service – will enable customers to take their existing broadcast feeds and channels directly to OTT cloud-based delivery models.

Verizon said that the combination of both “further extends the boundaries of what an end-to-end video solution represents”. Both companies already have complementary video workflow tools to enable content creators and broadcaster to generate assets, clips and social sharing opportunities from existing live, linear and video on demand workflows.
