The Federal National Council of the UAE has taken the first step by passing a draft law to set up an information and telecoms policy council that will regulate competition.
According to Gulf News, the council’s public utilities committee says that the planned law is meant to improve competitiveness in information technology and communications.
Members of the federal council said they want national telecoms infrastructure to be improved so that operators can offer smart services through mobile devices.
The law is expected to increase competition between Etisalat and du with greater sharing of infrastructure, said local reports.
