Afghan Wireless selects Cataleya to support IP networking in Afghanistan

Afghan Wireless Communications Company (AWCC) has selected Cataleya to deploy its Orchid One session and application management service across its network.

The Orchid One service will be initially deployed in Kabul, with plans to expand its roll out to other cities in Afghanistan. The service is a next-generation session border controller (SBC) developed to address the need for end-to-end quality of service and experience in IP networks.

“No matter what market you operate in, voice quality is critical,” said Mike Hoban, CTO at AWCC. “We selected Orchid One because it is able to support our vision for high-quality mobile services in Afghanistan. We are the leader in mobile in this country and Orchid One will enable us to deliver even more benefits to mobile subscribers, businesses and communities across Afghanistan.”

AWCC will use Orchid One as an international voice-switching platform and seek to address quality of service (QoS) quality of experience (QoE), interworking and transcoding. In addition, the service will be used to support AWCC’s migration from a legacy TDM network to an all-IP infrastructure.

Jay Jayasimha, CEO at Cataleya, said: “There is a tremendous opportunity in supporting IP networking in developing markets, and in enabling our customers to offer the best possible QoS and QoE. Afghan Wireless is already a true leader in mobile, and we look forward to supporting the development of its domestic infrastructure in Afghanistan.”

According to Jayasimha, Cateleya will be expanding and evolving its capabilities. “As we increase the number of deployments in the field, we are also expanding and evolving our capabilities. Over the last 12 to 18 months, we have deployed Orchid One in 13 networks globally, and we are developing new solutions for fraud identification and mitigation as well as other IP-based solutions. This is only the beginning for Cataleya.”
