Telcos partner to expand digital ecosystem

Nine operators have joined forces to help give start-ups a global footprint, with a potential reach of one billion customers in 80 countries.

The alliance says it is already working with 30 partner businesses, which include Spotify, AirBnB, Celltick and Disconnect.

The founding operators involved are BT, Deutsche Telekom, Millicom, MTS, Orange, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Rogers, TeliaSonera and TIM. They aim boost and expand the reach of partner services and their collective ability to scale up digital start-ups. Mari-Noëlle Jégo-Laveissière, senior marketing and technology executive at Orange, said that the “alliance will contribute and enhance our collective ability to scale up innovators”. 

The partnering operator alliance will cover all relevant product categories within an operator’s business, mobile-fixed corporations, B2B and B2C. The alliance says it is “an open network of like-minded operators worldwide with complementary geographical footprints”.

The alliance stated that it will provide an opportunity for operators to introduce their start-up ecosystems to an international footprint. MTS said the alliance will have a “potential customer base of around one billion customers in more than 80 countries”. The alliance will invite other members to join.
