T-Mobile Netherlands to launch LTE-A network

T-Mobile Netherlands will go live with its LTE-Advanced network in the country this week, according to local reports.

Following the initial launch, the service will allegedly be available to 76% of the Dutch population and the operator expects to roll the service out nationwide by the end of summer 2016.

“Mobile data traffic is growing exponentially,” said Iskos Lampros, director of technology at T-Mobile Netherlands. “This requires a lot of speed and capacity of mobile networks.”

The network combines spectrum in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands, and is designed to run with an average connection speed which is 50% faster than the 40Mbps of its existing LTE network.

T-Mobile launched its LTE network in the country in 2013, and the launch this week will make it the fourth operator in the Netherlands to roll out LTE-A after incumbent telco KPN, Vodafone and Tele2.
