BT appoints Clive Selley as CEO of Openreach

BT Group has appointed Clive Selley, its present chief information officer and CEO of its BT technology, service and operations (TSO) business to lead Openreach.

Selley will succeed Joe Garner who has stepped down to become CEO of Nationwide Building Society. The handover will take place this quarter.

"I am honoured to have been asked to lead Openreach at this important point in its history. The huge investment it has made over the past decade has made the UK a broadband leader, and we need to build on those foundations by deploying fibre to further communities and by rolling out ultrafast broadband," said Selley.

As CEO of BT TSO, Selley was responsible for 12,000 employees and 8,000 contractors. In addition, he is said to have overseen BT’s development of fibre broadband, including the doubling of speeds in 2012, as well as research into BT’s G.Fast technology.

Selley’s successor will be announced in due course, according to the company.
