CWC trials G.fast technology in Panama

Cable & Wireless Communications’ (CWC) business unit in Panama has trialled copper-based broadband services.

Cable & Wireless Panama (CWP) partnered with Huawei to deploy what they claim to be Latin America’s first trial of G.fast technology using existing copper infrastructure.

The G.fast technology trial ran for two months in Panama using Huawei's multi-service access node equipment. It was said to achieve high speeds averaging 500Mbps to download and 150Mbps to upload.

“We are thrilled to announce that Cable & Wireless Panama was the first market across Latin America to have successfully completed testing of the G.fast technology, which can deliver high speeds, to its customers through the fastest copper based fixed line broadband technology across the region reaching speeds of 500Mbps,” said Carlo Alloni, EVP of technology and group CTIO, Cable & Wireless Communications.
