Telenor proposes Gunn Waersted as chairwoman

Telenor has proposed Gunn Waersted as its chairperson of its board of directors.

The company said its corporate assembly, which is responsible for the election of chair, will meet to consider the proposal today.

Former chairman Svein Aasar resigned after a dispute with the Norwegian government over its dealings with VimpelCom in Uzbekistan. Telenor has a 33% stake in VimpelCom which it plans to sell to focus on its core operations.

Wærsted is presently CEO of Nordea Bank’s Norwegian arm and chairwoman of Petoro, which manages oil and gas fields.
