Taiwan raises $855 million in 4G spectrum auction

Taiwan has raised a total of $855 million (TWD 27.9 billion) in its auction of spectrum in the 2.6GHz band after 140 rounds of bidding.

Four out of five mobile operators acquired spectrum at the auction. Chunghwa Telecom emerged the biggest spender, bidding TWD 9.96 billion for two blocks while Far EasTone gained two blocks for TWD 9.13 billion.

Taiwan Star Cellular and Asia-Pacific Telecom (APT) both have one lot each, bidding TWD 6.62 billion and TWD 2.23 billion respectively. Taiwan Mobile did not participate in the auction after pulling out in late November.

The open tender closed 92% higher than the total reserve price, according to the National Communications Commission. The country’s 4G auction raised TWD 118.6 billion in 2013.
