China Telecom selects Alcatel-Lucent for traffic management

China Telecom has today revealed a partnership with Alcatel-Lucent which will see the French vendor manage the Chinese operator’s data centre traffic as it expands its 4G LTE services.

According to Telegeography research, China is expected to account for nearly a third of global 4G LTE subscriptions by 2019, and China Telecom hopes the partnership with Alcatel-Lucent will ensure that its IP network is able to manage this future growth in data traffic.

“Alcatel-Lucent is focussed on delivering an IP routing portfolio that will meet traffic demands into the future, while efficiently supporting the delivery of cloud-enabled mobile services,” said Yuan Xin, chairman and CEO at Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell.

“China’s mobile market is expected to see huge growth and using our 7950 XRS and 7750 SRs we can help China Telecom manage that growth with efficiency and flexibility.”

Alcatel-Lucent will provide its IP routing technology to China Telecom, enabling it to expand its 4G LTE mobile network and meet growing customer demand.

In March, China Telecom selected Alcatel-Lucent as one of its top three suppliers for the roll-out of high speed mobile broadband services in China.
