Telecom Italia Sparkle and Telefonica ink LTE roaming and A2P messaging deals

Telecom Italia Sparkle and Telefonica Business Solutions have today announced LTE roaming peering and A2P messaging deals.

The LTE roaming peering agreement is designed to deliver interoperability between TI Sparkle and Telefonica’s LTE networks; thus enabling a consistent user experience for the 4G mobile customers of both operators when they are roaming.

The first agreement is an extension of an existing IPX peering deal the two companies signed in 2014 and the addition is expected to boost the global IPX ecosystem which is growing at a pace.

“This LTE Roaming peering agreement increases the IPX scope between Telefonica and TI Sparkle and also benefits millions of end users of both parties that will enjoy 4G roaming in an extended footprint,” said Juan Revilla, wholesale business CEO at Telefonica Business Solutions.

The A2P messaging agreement will see Telefonica and TI Sparkle connect their A2P messaging hubs and establish a direct route between their networks.

This is expected to improve service quality as well as provider better control on fraudulent traffic.

“The A2P messaging market is growing very fast and the connection of both of our hubs will provide a high quality, secure and better coverage service to our customers,” Revilla said.

Alessandro Talotta, chairman and CEO at Telecom Italia Sparkle, said that the two agreements with Telefonica were paramount to the company’s promise of developing solutions that offer and facilitate interoperability among operators.

“We are pleased to expand our proposition with Telefonica and enhance our existing multi-service IPX connection to make LTE roaming an easier solution for operators and their end customers, and provide A2P messaging with a wider coverage and higher quality,” Talotta said.
