Ooredoo pens deal with Ericsson for transmission solutions

Qatari operator Ooredoo has signed a five year frame agreement with Ericsson for the supply of 2G, 3G and 4G radio, core and transmission solutions.

The agreement also includes Ericsson’s software technology designed to help Ooredoo to reduce time-to-market for new functionalities as well as ensure better performance.

“This group frame agreement will allow us to benefit from Ericsson’s latest hardware, software and services,” said Ahmed Al Derbesti, COO at Ooredoo Group. “It will allow us to differentiate our end user offering and will give us the competitive edge that we need.”

The deal is expected to improve overall network performance for Ooredoo and meet the growing demand for data services.

“The region is witnessing a digital transformation fuelled by innovation of telecoms services and solutions and the high demand on smart devices. This transformation requires networks that can provide superior performance to cater for the data explosion,” said Rafiah Ibrahim, president of Ericsson region Middle East and Africa.

“From this end, our customers realised the need to transform their networks and today’s collaboration with Ooredoo Group is a testimonial of our continuous support to meet their ambitions of delivering best performing networks that can provide superior customer experience for their subscribers.”
