TelecityGroup launches sixth Amsterdam data centre

TelecityGroup has today revealed the launch of its sixth data centre in Amsterdam.

The 6,000 square metre AMS 6 facility is designed to provide 9.6MW of customer capacity to one of Europe’s digital hubs, with a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.20 from launch.

The launch follows an increase in demand for co-location data centre services in Amsterdam in comparison to other European cities.

“Given its geographical position and favourable business conditions, Amsterdam is one of the world’s core hubs for international connectivity,” said Alexandra Schless, VP of Western Europe and MD of the Netherlands at TelecityGroup.

“The opening of AMS6 ensures that TelecityGroup can continue to support the growth of Amsterdam’s vibrant digital economy with the provision of resilient data centre capacity.”

The facility also boasts a number of features designed to maximise energy efficiency such as energy efficient cooling systems and aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES).

ATES uses naturally stored groundwater from aquifers – underground layers of water-bearing permeable rock which are native to Amsterdam – for the cooling systems that cool the data centre.
