BT wins Indonesia data comms licence

BT has become the second foreign company to win a data communication systems licence in Indonesia, competing with AT&T — which won its licence in 2011 — and 11 local companies.

According to reports from Indonesia the UK operator has won a siskomdat — data communication systems — licence, which allows it to offer its portfolio of networked IT services and applications directly to customers in the country.

"We’ve been investing in stronger infrastructure and better capabilities," said Kevin Taylor, president of BT Global Services in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, quoted in Digital News Asia. "Being awarded the telecoms licence in Indonesia is another exciting step in helping our customers succeed in AMEA and across the world."

BT said it has a new fibre ring in Singapore connecting six third-party data centres with BT’s network, adding that this would enhance capacity and resilience.
