Eutelsat announces CEO reshuffle

Michel de Rosen, chief executive at satellite provider Eutelsat, has told the company’s board of directors that he will step down from his position in March 2016.

He will be replaced by Rodolphe Belmer, existing CEO at Groupe Canal, who will join the company as deputy CEO on December 1 2015 to ensure a smooth transition.

De Rosen has served as CEO at Eutelsat since 2009 and will remain in his role of non-executive chairman of the board of directors at Eutelsat until November 2016.

“I take this opportunity to salute all our employees for their tremendous dedication and talent,” de Rosen said.

“I feel this is the right time to hand over the reins and am delighted to welcome Rodolphe Belmer in whom I have full confidence to build on our achievements and to take the company forward.”

A French national, Belmer served in positions at Proctor & Gamble and McKinsey before joining the marketing division of Groupe Canal in 2001.

“The Board of Directors is very pleased that Rodolphe Belmer will lead Eutelsat,” said Lord Birt, vice-chairman of the board of Eutelsat Communications.

“With his extensive experience in broadcasting, his understanding of the trends shaping digital markets and his leadership, we are confident he has the skills to take Eutelsat forward in the evolving satellite communications landscape.”

Earlier this month, Facebook and Eutelsat revealed plans to launch a satellite to provide internet services to sub-Saharan Africa.
