Mexican regulator says Telmex must change infrastructure sharing plan

Mexico's telecoms regulator IFT has requested that Carlos Slim’s fixed-line unit Telmex offer its competitors better terms for using its infrastructure in the country, according to local reports.

Telmex’s last-mile connectivity connects its competitors with their end-user customers and the move is seen as a bid to reduce Slim’s dominance in the market.

Telmex has 20 days from formal notice of the decision to present a new plan for sharing its network.

Mexico introduced new regulation last year in attempt to boost competition in the country.
