Equinix to launch Dallas IBX

Equinix has revealed it is to launch an international business exchange (IBX) data centre in Dallas, US later this year.

Named DA7, the 40,000ft2 IBX will be designed to support the growing demand for interconnection in the region.

The company is set to invest $20 million in the facility which will include an initial phase of 300 cabinets, and 800 additional cabinets expected by Q2 2016.

Located in close proximity to the Dallas Infomart, DA7 will offer connectivity to more than 275 customers, as well as the Equinix Cloud Exchange.

“We have seen tremendous growth in the Dallas market and DA7 will give businesses increased flexibility to support their ever-changing IT needs,” said Karl Strohmeyer, president of Americas at Equinix.

“This includes businesses who need greater flexibility due to business drivers such as the internet of things and big data.”

Equinix’s existing five data centres house more than 100 network service providers and a recent report from Forrester Research said that pursuing a cloud strategy with Equinix would enable organisations to reduce data centre space requirements and avoid future investments.

“To compete in the age of the customer, I&O organisations need to break away from the traditional mindset of defaulting to a location that is convenient to their workforce and instead consider locations that will deliver the best service to their customers,” said Sophia Varga, infrastructure and operations analyst, Forrester Research.

“Selecting a new data centre site has thus evolved from a tactical to a strategic decision.”
