AT&T edges closer to network on demand

AT&T is working with network solutions provider Brocade to enable routing functions to be delivered from the cloud.

The partnership will support AT&T’s on-demand Managed Internet Service, which uses Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) technologies to deploy virtualised access routers and automate control in its core network.

The service is designed to allow businesses to adjust and add network capabilities in near real-time without buying additional equipment at their locations.

“We’re working with Brocade to enhance our Managed Internet Service on Demand, so customers don’t need a router at their location. With the support of their technology, customers will experience faster installations and more dynamic control of their network service,” said Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president, AT&T Marketing and Global Strategy.

The move builds on AT&T’s SDN strategy which it launched back in March 2014.
