NTT Docomo to launch VoLTE international roaming in South Korea

NTT Docomo is to launch a VoLTE international roaming service in South Korea in cooperation with KT.

The operator said the move makes it the first mobile operator in Japan to offer a VoLTE outbound roaming service.

Scheduled to launch October 7, the service will be offered between Japan and South Korea and within South Korea.

The operator’s VoLTE service is designed to offer high-speed LTE data communication during voice calls and minimised delays when connecting calls.

The roaming service is said to incorporate the S8 Home Routed (S8HR) architecture, which is used to enhance the existing LTE data roaming architecture to support VoLTE in a roaming environment, in turn enabling fast and efficient commercialisation of VoLTE roaming services.

The company added that it aims to expand its VoLTE roaming service into other countries through partnerships with local companies to broaden its customers’ global access to high quality voice and voice calls.
