Four French players enter mobile auction

All four domestic carriers in France have indicated that they wish to take part in the country’s upcoming auction of 4G mobile spectrum, France’s telecoms regulator ARCEP said on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, Orange, Numericable-SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Iliad have all sent applications to ARCEP for participation in the auction for 700MHz airwaves.

France is allegedly looking to raise €2.5 billion from the auction which is set for November this year. Approvals are expected by the year end.

The low-frequency spectrum is being freed up from television broadcasters and will enable mobile players to better transport voice and data traffic during peak times.
