Interoute expands metro network in Dutch capital

Interoute has expanded its Amsterdam network in the Netherlands.

The company is adding 43 route kilometres of optical fibre cables and increasing network capacity by 21% in its Amsterdam city network.

Part of this expansion includes the addition of 22 route kilometre of cable between the Amsterdam Science Park and Amsterdam South-East areas of the city. The improved connectivity in these areas will support businesses in the region, by enabling more high capacity data to flow and adding diverse resilient routes in this high traffic area.

“This expansion is testament to Amsterdam's importance as a global internet exchange and key location for multinational enterprises. Not only are we expanding capacity, we are also offering diversity on routes in and out of Amsterdam that are imperative in this ever growing city,” said Martijn Ten Kate, Interoute’s country manager in the Netherlands.

Over the last three years Interoute has invested in the expansion of its Amsterdam city network to meet increasing demands for higher capacity. The existing city network spans 230 kilometres of duct routes, and more than 275 route kilometres of fibre, and is continuing to grow.

“Interoute has one of Europe's largest and most advanced networks. The new deployment not only augments existing routes, it also provides an expansion into new data centres, ensuring that Interoute maintains its place as a leading provider for the telecoms operators and internet giants who rely on our network services,” said Renzo Ravaglia, executive vice president for service providers at Interoute.

Earlier this month, Interoute also reached an agreement to acquire global managed services provider Easynet for an enterprise value of £402 million.
